Process Steps

1. Application

  • Application form is completed and submitted to RTF.

  • Gathered information is sent to jail chaplain for review.

2. Chaplain Follow Up

  • Chaplain contacts applicant within 1 month of application to explain volunteer needs in local jail ministry and candidate process.

3. User Set-Up

  • Chaplain approves applicant for online learning and notifies volunteer administrator.

  • Applicant becomes a “Candidate” and receives instructions to take "Jail Ministry Basic Training".

4. Online Learning

  • Candidate takes course.

  • Candidate with 80% or better receives completion certificate.

5. Candidate Interview

  • Chaplain follows up with candidate for jail interview.

  • County conducts candidate background check.

  • Chaplain makes decision on candidate readiness and fit for his/her team.

6. Orientation

  • Chaplain presents the rtf-Sheriff’s Certificate for volunteer access for specific jail.

  • Chaplain trains and completes orientation with policies and procedures for new volunteer.

  • Chaplain assigns the new volunteer a role and service opportunities.
